Theo Walcott has urged Arsene Wenger to let him loose up front with Arsenal approaching a key period in their season. The England star has spent his entire Gunners career on the wing despite having an impressive goal-scoring record in matches where he has begun as a centre forward. After scoring the only goal in Tuesday’s Champions League victory against Udinese, he stated, ‘I would like to put it out there that I want to play up front’.

Wenger has been reluctant to play Walcott through the middle in the past few seasons but the 22-year-old is eyeing his chance at the top end of the pitch. He added, ‘The boss has always promised me that I will get a chance to play through the middle and it’s now been six years since I joined the club…I’m not making any demands, but I am giving the boss something to think about’.

Walcott also admitted that Arsenal need to add to their squad this summer if they are going to compete for silverware next season. He said, ‘Of course the players are wondering what’s going on. We don’t want the squad to get lower and lower’.
