Arsenal winger Theo Walcott has admitted that the club must hit the ground running this season or face more crushing heartache. The club’s fans were also given a look at new signing Gervinho and would gave been impressed with what they saw as the French striker hit both goals in the 2-1 friendly win over Cologne.

Walcott set up Gervinho’s second strike and described the £10.6 million arrival as ‘a breath of fresh air’. The England winger stated, ‘He looks a great talent. You can tell he can bring goals, he has got plenty of pace and is very comfortable on the ball. I am looking forward to playing with him’. Boss Arsene Wenger was also delighted to see his new man get off the mark and hopes he can prove to be one of the bargain signings of the summer. Wenger stated, ‘You could see how quick he is to get behind defenders. I hope he is a bargain. When you see all the fees around you become dizzy’.

Arsenal face Newcastle, Liverpool and Manchester United in their first three Premier League fixtures and the collapse that saw the Gunners finish the season without a trophy last season also saw them slip out of the automatic Champions League qualifying places. As a consequence, they must also get through a two legged play-off game to secure a place in the competition which sees them face 5 games in 15 days. The latest news can be found at www.arsenal.com.
