Should the defensive trio fail to recover, Phil Jones is likely to partner Rio Ferdinand in central defensive whilst Antonio Valencia and Fabio will fight over the right-back slot.
Basel meanwhile, will be without star player Xherdan Shaqiri as he completes a two-match ban whilst Benjamin Huggel is also suspended after his red card on matchday one of the season. Scott Chipperfield (torn muscle) is back in contention but Valentin Stocker and Gilles Yapi (both knee) will almost certainly miss the trip to England.
