Alexis Sanchez

Many people have heard the rumours over the past few weeks about Alexis Sanchez and where he will play his football next season, but the vast majority do not know too much about him. It is no secret that he is currently wanted by Manchester United, Manchester City, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Bayern Munich and all would break the bank to sign him.

The Udinese winger was nicknamed El Nino Maravilla in his youth career due to his youth and stylish play. He joined the Cobreloa youth ranks at the age of 15 and was promoted to the senior squad in 2005. His fine form led to a move to Udinese and he was loaned to Colo-Colo to continue his football education before returning to Italy in 2008. He stands at 5ft 6 inches and can be deployed on either wing, as a forward or playing as a central attacking midfielder. He first caught the eye at last summer’s World Cup as Chile reached the last 16 and he boasts a record of 12 international goals in 36 games.

It has been questioned whether he is tough enough for the Premier League as the two Manchester clubs know better than anyone that there is always a risk involved. United spent big money on Juan Veron after impressing in Italy but he never really got to grips with the Premier League and the same could be said for Diego Forlan who has proved he can score goals in Spain, but he largely struggled in the Premier League. Carlos Tevez was a hit for both the Red Devils and the blue half of Manchester whilst Robinho also struggled to find his feet in England.

Sanchez had a fine season last year and enjoyed his best-ever campaign, scoring 12 goals in 31 games and firing his team to the Champions League. He almost joined Galatasaray last summer but decided to remain in Italy and it has paid dividends for both the club and the player. He scored four goals against Palermo in February and along with Antonio Di Natale enjoyed one of the most successful strike partnerships in Italy with 35 goals in total.
