Although Sunderland have heavily invested in their squad this summer, Steve Bruce still believes he is short of the most expensive element which is a reliable striker. The home defeat to Newcastle will not have gone down well at the Stadium of Light and there have been doubts about the longevity of Asamoah Gyan’s stay at the club.

Gyan undoubtedly has ability but there is a general feeling that he is merely using the club as a stepping stone to a higher level. Sunderland have invested in Connor Wickham but do not want to burden him with too much pressure too soon whilst James McLean has come in from Derry but will take time to settle into the club. Craig Bellamy and Peter Crouch are both options but it is believed Bruce has identified Papiss Cisse from Freiburg as the man he would like to bring to the club.

Cisse would cost in the region of £12 million and scored 22 goals in 32 league appearances last season. He has continued that fine form into the new season and already has 4 league goals to his name in just 3 games. The latest news can be found at www.safc.com.
