Ghana captain Stephen Appiah admits to being ‘scared’ of their Group D opponents as they prepare to clash on Sunday.
The 29-year-old has warned his Black Stars team-mates not to look beyond their opening match as he believes Radomir Antic’s side have quality to pose them real problems.
He said: “Everybody’s talking about Germany. But I’m scared about Serbia. hey are aggressive, technically they are good, they are arrogant, they have everything. We’re not even thinking about Australia or Germany now. We are just focused on Sunday’s game.”
The Bologna midfielder, however, is confident that they can cope with the loss of Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien to injury.
“I’m really sad for him (Essien), because every player wanted to be in this tournament, but unfortunately he didn’t make it,” he added. “It’s a big blow, but some of the younger [players] are ready to take [up] that position.”
After meeting the White Eagles, Milovan Rajevic’s side will take on Australia on June 19 and then Germany on June 23.
