Fulham’s £10.6 million summer signing Bryan Ruiz has admitted he is struggling to cope with the rigours of the Premier League. The attacking midfielder, who was signed on dead-line day from FC Twente, was hauled off at half-time on his debut against Blackburn and has made just three substitute appearances since.

He stated, ‘I’ve not had a comfortable time so far. When I played in Holland I used to have an extra second to think. That makes a big difference. Here I am placed under greater pressure and get less time to act on the pitch. You also get more one-on-one situations in Dutch football. Here you get two players breathing down your neck straight away’.

The form of Andy Johnson has taken some of the pressure off Ruiz, but the Costa Rican international is intent on claiming the striking berth alongside Bobby Zamora in the Fulham team.
