Portuguese star Nani is set to be given a mega pay rise in a new contract deal by Manchester United, in an attempt to starve off interest from Italy.

Sir Alex Ferguson intends to move the winger into the next tier of their pay-scale alongside the likes of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand who are said to command salaries of a reported £130,000 a week. Both Milan clubs and Juventus are said to be interested in a summer raid which has prompted United to start contract talks early.

Boss Ferguson will resist any attempts to cash in on the star who was signed from Sporting Lisbon in 2007, that is likely to mean an improved four-year deal with the 24-year-old emerging as a key player at Old Trafford in recent seasons.
