Although Manchester United winger Nani topped the goal-assists chart in the Premier League last season and was voted as the clubs player’s player of the season, he missed out on a spot in the team for the Champions League final. The Portuguese winger has vowed to take his game to another level to make sure he will never be ignored by Sir Alex Ferguson again. He was fantastic in the 2-1 win over Barcelona on Saturday night and terrorised the European Champions from start to finish as well as netting the opening goal of the game.

Barcelona were without a number of first-team players but Nani looked determined to prove a point and took his chance with both hands to leave Sir Alex Ferguson with some serious thinking to do ahead of the new season. Ashley Young has been brought to the club and looks set to start the season on the left-side of midfield whilst Antonio Valencia was ahead of Nani at the end of last season in the right-wing berth. Nani stated however, ‘I am always confident. I didn’t lose my place to Valencia. The last two or three games the manager made his decisions and, of course, you have to respect this. But now I am feeling very confident for the new season and I hope to do my best and help the team win trophies’.

Edwin Van der Sar’s testimonial takes place this Wednesday with Paul Scholes also hosting his testimonial this Friday at Old Trafford. United then face Manchester City at Wembley on Sunday before opening their Premier League campaign away to West Brom on August 14. The latest news can be found at www.manutd.com.
