Championship side Crystal Palace have a tough Carling Cup quarter final fixture on Wednesday night, as they travel to take on English champions Manchester United at Old Trafford. Football betting pundits are writing Palace’s chances off, but the visiting support will hope to catch the hosts on an off day.

Manchester United started the season in excellent fashion, but have seen inconsistency creep into their results of late. A 1-1 draw at home to Newcastle on Saturday will give Palace hope that an upset could be achieved, and Sir Alex Ferguson’s men are currently five points behind cross town rivals Manchester City in the race to retain their Premier League title. The home side are likely to field a number of fringe players, with Wayne Rooney and a number of other stars given a break. Titan Bet has United as overwhelming favourites, giving them odds of 1.22 to get a win.

Crystal Palace sit in mid-table in the Championship, and are currently in 10th place in the English second tier. Dougie Freedman’s side started the season brightly, but have not won a game, or scored a goal, in their last five Championship games. The Eagles will know that they are up against a top class side, and will line up with a defensive outlook, and try to frustrate the home support. Visiting goalkeeper Julian Speroni may well be in for a taxing evening, and will look for cover from his defence. Palace do have a number of players with Premier League experience at their disposal, and have already knocked out Wigan, Southampton and Middlesbrough from this year’s competition. Titan Bet give Palace odds of 12.44 to get an unlikely victory.

United will have too much strength for the visitors, even with a weakened side, and should progress to the semi-finals. My Carling Cup football betting tip is a 2-0 win to United, which Titan Bet put at odds of 6.50.
