The Allianz Arena played host to a 6-0 thrashing as Bayern Munich secured their place in the DFB Cup Round of 16.  The Bavarian giant’s rattled up half a dozen goals in a thoroughly professional dismissal of Second Division FC Ingolstadt.

“I really enjoyed watching my lads tonight,” enthused Jupp Heynckes after a totally convincing display by his reshuffled side. The boss also expressed fulsome praise for the Arena faithful.

“I fielded a number of players who’ve not had a lot of playing time recently. After the 90 minutes we’ve just seen, I can say it was well worth it. The first half was a little bumpy. Our build-up play was pedestrian, and we gave our opponents time to park the defensive bus. Once we made it 3-0 shortly after the break, it was over as a contest. After that, we produced some flowing moves, and our passing was much more assured. I really enjoyed watching my lads tonight, but all credit to the crowd too, they gave us terrific support.”

Mario Gomez deputy Nils Petersen scored a brace in the 6-0 drubbing and reflected on his side’s performance.

“We knew it would be tricky – and I knew it from personal experience, because I played against Ingolstadt last season. As we expected, Ingolstadt pulled everyone back, but it started going the way we wanted after the opening goal. We had loads of chances, and at the end of the day, you have to say we’ve ‘only’ scored six. But we did a good enough job. I’m delighted the coach chose to put his faith in me. It was a good game for the second string players, it’ll give us a lot of confidence.”

Ingolstadt coach Benno Möhlmann believes that his side were lucky to have conceded only six.

“In the first half, we were tactically very disciplined in defence, and we stuck to the agreed pre-match plan, although we lacked the courage to do any kind of attacking. We lost our discipline after going 3-0 down, and when you look at the last half-hour, we got off lightly with only a six-goal beating.”
