Fulham moved up to eighth in the Premier League table after out-playing West Bromwich Albion at Craven Cottage. Roy Hodgson’s side claimed a 2-0 triumph in West London, but the scoreline flattered bottom-of-the-table West Brom.
Man of the match – Fulham’s Danny Murphy controlled the game in midfield and was unfortunate not to score himself during the 2-0 victory having hit the woodwork twice – once from a free kick and then from a lovely curly effort from outside the box.
Moment of the match – For the first time in over 29 hours of top-flight football, Bobby Zamora scored his first Premier League goal since his strike against Bolton back in September and more importantly put his side on the way to three valuable points in the race for survival.
Attempt of the match – Mid-way through the first half, Clint Dempsey found space from around 25 yards before blasting a superb swerving piledriver, which flew past the diving Scott Carson but crashed against the corner of post and bar.
Save of the match – Scott Carson was far the busier goalkeeper throughout the contest but Mark Schwarzer produced a fine penalty save to deny Roman Bednar in stoppage time, just about summing up West Brom’s day.
Goal of the game – Neither goal was particularly special but Zamora’s effort from close range at least had to beat Scott Carson, who was lying on the floor helpless when Andy Johnson struck Fulham’s second goal.
Talking point – Fulham’s victory moved them a giant step towards safety but on this performance rock-bottom West Brom simply don’t have the quality to dig their way out of trouble.
