Ex-Newcastle United defender Jose Enrique has admitted that he fears for the club as he called into question the direction, ambitions and focus of his former side. The left-back completed his £6 million move to Liverpool last week after becoming disheartened by the transfer policy of the Magpies. He has followed Andy Carroll to Liverpool, whilst Kevin Nolan has joined West Ham and as of yet, those players have not been replaced.

He stated, ‘Yes I do worry. Not because we leave because at some clubs good players leave. But they have not signed another left-back, nothing. I’m worried not for the club, but more for the fans because they are amazing…I think Joey Barton will leave soon and Andy Carroll left in January and it is really, really hard for Alan Pardew’.

Despite undoubtedly having money in the bank, Newcastle have failed to bring in a marquee signing this summer. Demba Ba has been brought in to replace Andy Carroll but with a large bulk of that £34 million still in the bank, it seems owner Mike Ashley is refusing to plough it back into the club. Joey Barton was been placed on the transfer list whilst the club does not currently have a recognised left-back on its books. The latest news can be found at www.nufc.co.uk
