Sunderland boss Steve Bruce wants Manchester City outcast Roque Santa Cruz to inject the goals to kick-start his side’s faltering start to the season. After an impressive opening day draw against Liverpool in the Premier League, Bruce has seen his side lose the Tyne-Wear derby at home to Newcastle whilst they were dumped out of the Carling Cup by Championship side Brighton last night.

The club have failed to score in both games, leading the Sunderland boss to bemoan the lack of firepower at the club, a problem he believe can be remedied by the introduction of Santa Cruz. City are keen to offload the striker and Bruce is well aware that the club will be willing to release their striker for much less than the £18 million they paid Blackburn Rovers for him.

Santa Cruz scored just four goals during his spell at Eastlands and could resurrect his faltering career by linking up with young forward Connor Wickham and Ghana star Asamoah Gyan. The latest news can be found at www.safc.com.
