Liverpool striker Fernando Torres has made a plea to Spain coach Vicente del Bosque to play him from the start for tomorrow’s World Cup final.
The troubled striker paid the price for a miserable World Cup when he was axed for Wednesday’s semi-final win over Germany.
But on the eve of tomorrow’s final the striker, whose goal won them Euro 2008, has made a desperate plea to coach Vicente del Bosque to start against Holland.
A squad insider said: “Fernando went to see del Bosque and put his case as strongly as he could. He knows he has been below his best – but he has promised the coach he will not let him down. It hurt him badly to sit on the bench against Germany, but that would be nothing compared to missing out tomorrow.”
