With just two days to go in England’s transfer window, phone lines and check books are sure to be blazing as clubs look to plug up early voids and rid themselves of deadwood holding the club down.

Manchester City for once do not look like they will be signing anyone, as their board stated Samir Nasri would be the last bit of business for the Eastlanders.  However, the City have themselves a new signing in the form of a free-firing Edin Dzeko, signed for £27 million in January from Wolfsburg.

The striker has scored six times this season, including a four goal frenzy at White Hart Lane last weekend.  The Bosnian was being classified as a flop following his rough start to life in England, but Dzeko has come out firing this season, with a little help from Manchester City’s five-squad.  He claims that it was under the tutelage of Roberto Mancini that the striker was able to kick start his career at City.

‘I am so grateful for his patience,’ he said. ‘I think it is the most important thing of all when the coach and players around you show belief in you.

‘At the beginning, it was hard for me. But I needed a good pre-season and to know the League better. I feel much stronger than last year.’

At Arsenal, who just endured possibly the worst two months of their club history losing Gael Clichy, Cesc Fabregas, Emmanuel Eboue and Samir Nasri and lost back to back matches to rivals Liverpool (0-2) and Manchester United (8-2).  Arsene Wegner has moved quickly to plug up his leaky back line following their drubbing at the hands of the Champions, signing Brazilian left back Andre dos Santos for £6.2 million.

He is expected to have a medical with Arsenal on Tuesday before completing a four-year deal worth £40,000 a week.

Wenger has also enquired about Inter Milan midfielder Wesley Sneijder, although his £250,000 wages would represent a serious hurdle. Inter would still like to shift the Dutchman to finance a deadline day deal for Carlos Tevez from City.

Chelsea have made a late bid for Liverpool star Raul Meireles, offering the Merseyside club £8 million plus former midfielder Yossi Benayoun.  Liverpool have rejected the bid, but sources claimed Liverpool would be interested in a deal only if it involved Chelsea striker Daniel Sturridge.  Sturridge enjoyed a fantastic loan spell at Bolton last campaign, but finds himself low in the pecking order with Fernando Torres, Nicolas Anelka, Didier Drogba and Florent Malouda all ahead of the young Englishman.

Liverpool would like to sign a third striker with David N’gog set to join Bolton, but have neared completion on a deal for Uruguayan Sebastian Coates.  Coates played out a superb Copa America making his senior debut for his country, and rejected a late bid from Atletico Madrid to join fellow compatriot Luis Suarez at Anfield.  Officials from Nacional will fly into England today to finalize a deal.

There has been some famous transfer deadline-day deals completed in recent season’s, and this one could be no different.  It will be interesting to see how club’s move to set their squads for the next few months, and there is plenty of excitement surrounding some of England’s top clubs.
