Manchester United -

Manchester United have travelled to Portugal without Rio Ferdinand for Wednesday’s Champions League clash with Benfica. The central defender has been left out of the trip with Sunday’s clash with Chelsea in mind as he is still recovering from a hamstring injury suffered one month ago. Ferdinand did play 90 minutes three days ago in the 5-0 win against Bolton but he and United skipper Nemanja Vidic (groin) will both miss the trip.

Tom Cleverley (foot), Danny Welbeck (hamstring) and Rafael (shoulder) also sit the game out whilst there was no room in the travelling party for strikers Federico Macheda and Mame Diouf. Defenders Jonny Evans and Patrice Evra have made the trip whilst Ryan Giggs, Darren Fletcher and Dimitar Berbatov are also expected to be handed starts.

Benfica meanwhile are at full strength and will blood former Barcelona striker Nolito, Brazilian midfielder Bruno Cesar and Argentine defender Ezequiel Garay. Belgium midfielder Axel Witsel is also expected to start in midfield alongside Javi Garcia.
