South American giant, Uruguay finished top of group A after their success in defeating home side, Russia 3-0.

Already securing their place in the next round, didn’t stop both teams from pushing hard in search for three points.

It was Uruguay though that got things going when they got themselves in front after just 10 minutes of play through Luis Suarez’s free kick.

La Celeste continue to dominate that match as they eventually added their second through an own goal from Denis Cheryshev on 23 minutes.

That 2-0 lead got even better for Oscar Tabarez’s side when their opponent have to play with just 10 men as Igor Smolnikov was sent off after receiving his second yellow card.

After the break, Uruguay reduce their attacking intensity for a bit, as they simply stroll their way around that half.

Russia tried their best to get themselves back into that tie, but none of their attacks were successful.

Eventually, La Celeste sealed their victory with a third goal when Edinson Cavani netted home from close range right in the 90th minute.

No more goals were scored in the remaining minutes as that 3-0 victory was more than enough in securing maximum points from Oscar Tabarez’s men.

That victory also confirmed Uruguay’s place as the group winner, which means they are set to battle the runners up of group B.

As for Russia, notably, the host nation will be preparing themselves for a tough battle against the winner of group B.
