Uruguay confirmed their passage into the second round of FIFA World Cup 2018 following their slender 1-0 victory over Saudi Arabia.
Coming into the tie after a hard fought battle against Egypt, La Celeste seems to expecting a much easier route this time around, but they were in for a rude awakening.
The Asian side were very determined to show their worth after losing 5-0 against Russia and Juan Antonio Pizzi’s men were doing really well indeed.
Nevertheless, Uruguay have always knew how to score goals and they prove it again when Luis Suarez broke the dead lock with his close range finish on 23 minutes.
Instead of getting more comfortable after taking that lead, Oscar Tabarez’s men finding it more difficult to get things going as Pizzi’s boys continue their aggressive display.
Both sides continue their quest for goals after the break, without much difference in terms of approach as La Celeste opted to play on the counter more, while Saudi trying to build things with ball possession.
Despite creating several opportunities, neither teams were able to convert their chances and that match eventually ended in a comfortable 1-0 win for Uruguay.
That slender win was more than enough to Suarez and co’s place in the knock out stage of World Cup 2018, though they and Russia will still have to decide the group winner.
