Sigurdsson’s Wonder Strike Secured Everton’s Europa League Place

The Europa League ended its playoffs stage and many top teams have qualified into this season’s group stage round, including Premier League side Everton which see off Croatian opposition, Hajduk Split 3-1 in aggregate.

Ronald Koeman’s side success in reaching the group stage was not the main highlight though for them, but it was a spectacular goal netted by their summer signing, Gylfi Sigurdsson, that stole the headline.

Albeit being known to have a pretty good long shots, but the one Sigurdsson netted on Thursday was somewhat special indeed as he volleyed a shot from a rather wide angle just ahead of center circle and it went into Hajduk’s net.

Naturally it was helped with the Croatian side’s goalie getting himself out of position, but it was still a difficult shot from the Iceland international as he scored it from a rather difficult angle, not to mention it looked rather spontaneous as well.

Not only that, it was also an important goal for the Premier League outfit since they were trailing 1-0 before Sigurdsson’s wonder strike, which still opens Hajduk’s shot in overcoming their previous 2-0 deficit from the first leg.

Due to that away goal, the home team basically lost their beliefs as they would need to score three more goals in order to go through.

Acknowledging those factors, it’s fair to say that the former Swansea man’s goal is certainly something special indeed, notably for Everton fans.
