Senegal’s ambition in repeating their 2002 success seems to be going well as they opened this 2018 World Cup campaign with a 2-1 victory over Japan.

Both teams were very determined in grabbing all three points, but it was the African side that got themselves the important break through thanks to Thiago Cionek’s own goal, just few minutes before half time break.

That 1-0 lead triggered a more intense battle in the second period, but Senegal just simply having their day as it was they that got their second on the hour mark, this time through M’Baye Niang’s effort.

Poland didn’t keen on giving up easily as they kept on pouring forward and did managed to pull one back when Grzegorz Krychowiak scored on 86 minutes.

Unfortunately, there was just not enough time for Poland to get themselves back into that game as they must accept of getting beaten 2-1 by Senegal.

Certainly a very disappointing result for Poland, considering they along with Colombia were being tipped as the top two teams that will be getting out from their group.

Interestingly, the South American side also saw themselves getting beaten 2-1 by Japan, putting them in the similar situation as Poland.

Nevertheless, it’s not the end of everything for The Red and Whites squad as they’re still two more games for them to make things right for their own liking.
