Ronaldo Sealed Portugal’s Victory Over Russia
After drawing their opening fixture in Confederations Cup 2017 against Mexico, European champions, Portugal got themselves all three points on their second game.
Fernando Santos’ men successfully defeated home team, Russia 1-0 with the only goal scored by Selecao’s super star, Cristiano Ronaldo.
Keen on grabbing all three points following their first match’s draw, Portugal were pushing hard since kick off as they dominated early proceedings.
The Euro 2016 winner finally got themselves in front after just eight minutes of play through Cristiano Ronaldo’s close range header.
That early lead triggered a more intense battle between both teams as Russia were determined to get themselves back on level terms.
Although things become more intriguing, but the game got rather scrappy as both sides starting to play more direct instead of creating a composed built up attack.
Portugal’s slender lead lasted until half time break as Russia failed to break down their opponent’s defense during that first period.
After the break, Stanislav Cherchesov’s side tried to up their game as they were chasing that one goal from Ronaldo.
The home team were able to put their opponent under lots of pressure as Portugal were more content in playing from the counter.
However ,the host’s efforts were fruitless as they couldn’t snatched a single goal until the final whistle was blown.
