Northern Ireland bounced back from their disappointing first game defeat as they grabbed a surprising 2-0 victory over Ukraine on Thursday.
Playing in the pouring rain forced both teams to spent more time adjusting instead of getting things going during the first 45 minutes of that half.
In the second period, Northern Ireland immediately got themselves in front not long after the restart through Gareth McAuley’s header.
Ukraine poured forward in search for an equalizing goal, but just like against Germany they can’t seem to finish off their chances.
Deep in stoppage time, Northern Ireland ended the contest when Niall McGinn pounced on Stuart Dallas’ shot which was spilled by goal keeper, Pyatov.
That win puts Michael O’Neill’s men in a strong position to get themselves into the knock out stages, as another draw in their final group game might actually gave them that opportunity.
