Since 2008, Cristiano Ronaldo along with Lionel Messi have both dominated the FIFA Best Player awards as they both won it 5 times each, but this year those two names have finally been replaced as Luka Modric has been awarded with the individual title.
The Croatian international has been expected and supported by many to get the award this time around, following his consistent performance for club and country throughout the year.
Modric helped Madrid claimed their third Champions League title in a row, while leading Croatia into World Cup 2018 final, by putting out quality performances nearly every matches.
Being named as the best player in 2018 certainly something that the former Tottenham Hotspur’s men fully appreciate, but he believes it was not all down to him as the midfielder also thanked his teammates at Madrid and Croatia for it.
Not just fellow teammates, Modric also not forgetting the work of his coaches who certainly played a part in helping him flourished into such consistent and dominant player, especially in 2018.
Moreover, the Croatian’s success could really opened up the beliefs and confidence of other players to see that they finally have that shot in winning the award as Messi and Ronaldo’s dominance have finally been ended this year.
