Manchester United failed to defend their Carabao Cup/League Cup title following Jose Mourinho’s men shock defeat from lower division side, Bristol City on Wednesday.
Making some changes on his line up, Man United actually still put on a relative strong squad with the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Paul Pogba, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial on shown.
Nevertheless, despite dominating proceedings, the visitor were not finding it easy as Bristol put on a solid display from start to finish.
After a goalless first 45 minutes, it was the home team that got themselves a shock lead when Joe Bryan scored on 51 minutes.
That lead was canceled out though by Ibrahimovic as he scored from a free kick within just seven minutes after Bryan’s opener.
However, it was Bristol that got the final blow as Korey Smith netted the winner deep in stoppage time, not leaving Man United with enough time to get back into that tie.
Meanwhile, an opposite result was achieved by Chelsea as they defeated fellow Premier League side, Bournemouth 2-1 at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues got themselves ahead after just 13 minutes through Willian, but was in danger of extending that tie into extra time when Dan Gosling equalized on the 90th minute.
Fortunately for Antonio Conte’s men, within just a minute after Gosling’s equalizer, Alvaro Morata restored Chelsea’s lead, which also turned out as the winning goal in that tie.
