Manchester United holding on to their runners up seat in English Premier League following an important win against their direct rival, Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Only having two points lead ahead of their opponent ahead of their weekend tie, Man United were very determined in grabbing maximum result as they put strong pressure early on.

Jose Mourinho’s men put on a very direct an effective play which worked well as they found themselves going one goal up through Marcus Rashford’s fine finish from inside the penalty area.

That opening goal lifted the home team’s confidence as they continue to look dangerous going forward, creating several chances, before eventually doubling their tally with another effort from Rashford.

Leading 2-0 in the first 45 minutes, Man U lowered their intensity, especially going forward making them being forced back by their opponent as Liverpool were looking to get back into the tie.

Despite their dominant ball possession, The Reds didn’t really look like scoring as United were defending really tight and discipline, until an error from Eric Bailly basically triggered Jurgen Klopp’s men spirit.

Bailly’s failure to deal with Sadio Mane’s cross resulted in an own goal from the former Villarreal defender as his poor deflection went pass David De Gea, who couldn’t really do much about it.

Fortunately for Man United, that own goal was Liverpool’s only reply in that match as no more goals were scored by either team until the final whistle was blown.

That victory puts Mourinho’s men five points clear of their rival and pretty much needed breathing space to maintain that second place spot for now.
