Man City’s UCL Campaign Under Serious Threat After PSG Loss

Manchester City’s hope of advancing into the next round of this season’s Champions League is under a serious threat following their 4-2 loss against Paris Saint Germain. Pep Guardiola’s men were two goals up at one time but failed to maintain their lead and were pegged back by the home team that scored four goals past Ederson.

Man City Shocked by PSG in Paris

Man City and PSG are desperate for three points to maintain their Champions League campaign, which has been quite disappointing so far. The two teams immediately showcased their strong intent to grab three points by putting on an attacking showcase from the start.

However, despite both teams’ strong efforts in the first half, neither side could get in front, although PSG got a goal ruled out for offside. After the break, Man City looked to find their strides as they went two goals up in three minutes through Jack Grealish’s 50-minute effort followed by Erling Haaland’s close-range strike.

The Paris-based outfit were not ready to give up though as they poured forward vigorously and managed to put Pep Guardiola’s men under pressure. PSG finally pulled one goal back on 56 minutes through Achraf Hakimi and four minutes later drew level thanks to Bradley Barcola’s effort.

Things got worse for City as they found themselves 3-2 down when Joao Neves scored with a close-range header on 78 minutes. Goncalo Ramos sealed PSG’s victory and ended Man City’s hope of getting at least a point with his stoppage-time goal.

Man City’s UCL Campaign Under Threat After Loss

City’s shocking defeat in Paris now puts them sitting just outside of the UCL’s new format playoff spot with eight points from seven games. Guardiola’s men can still sneak into that playoff spot if things go their way in the final round.

The Citizen must not only beat their opponent Club Brugge but also hope that other teams’ results favor them in that final fixture. On paper, beating the Belgium outfit should be a very possible outcome for Man City but judging by their form this season, notably in UCL, anything can still happen.
