Madrid Win Back to Back Champions League After Thumping Juve
Real Madrid’s ambition in carving new Champions League record was fulfilled in such impressive fashion as Los Blancos earned their 12th title this weekend.
A success which also means that they have won the major club football trophy back to back, the first time during Champions League era as it’s only done previously once in the Cup format by AC Milan.
Los Blancos didn’t just won their historic achievement in a normal way, but also convincing manner as they destroyed Juventus, 4-1 with Cristiano Ronaldo bagging two goals for the Spanish giant.
Both teams looking determined since kick off, especially the Italian as they were keen on finally ending their Champions League drought.
Juve looked dangerous early on with their high pressing and direct play, but it was Madrid that got themselves in front when a nice combination play was finished by Ronaldo’s slightly deflected effort.
The Italian got back into the tie soon afterwards with an acrobatic goal from Mario Mandzukic, making it 1-1 during that first 45 minutes.
However, things changed drastically after the break as it was all Madrid with their dominant midfield playing which simply overpowering Juve’s players.
Los Blancos regained their advantage through Casemiro’s long range effort, before Ronaldo basically ended that tie with his second in the game on 64 minutes.
Late in that tie, things got worse for the Italians as they fell one man short with substitute, Juan Cuadrado receiving his second yellow card, albeit in a controversial fashion.
Zidane’s boys eventually stamped their authority by netting a fourth goal, scored by second half substitute, Marco Asensio, turning it into a very disappointing night for Juventus.
