Disappointing results occurred for several top teams on their final group game of UEFA Champions League this past Wednesday.
Most notable names such as Real Madrid along with Juventus suffered defeats on their last fixtures, giving a slight bitter taste to their campaign.
Madrid suffered a rare defeat as they were beaten 3-0 at Santiago Bernebau by CSKA Moscow, a result which hasn’t happened for Los Blancos during that round since way back in 2009.
Already securing their passage into the knock out stage, Santiago Solari’s men did put out a rather young squad and that decision prove to be costly.
Despite dominating possession early on, the Champions League defending champion found themselves trailing 2-0 during the first 45 minutes through Fedor Challov along with Georgi Schennikov’s goals.
Instead of getting back into the tie, the home side found themselves even more down as they conceded a third goal from Arnor Sigurdsson’s which sealed CSKA’s win.
In another match, Juventus also got beaten 2-1 by Swiss outfit Young Boys, a result that was not on the card at all.
Fielding a relatively strong squad, despite resting some players, the Turin giant found themselves going one goal down as Guillaume Hoarau converted a spot kick on 30 minutes.
The home team got into a much better situation as Hoarau scored his second in the game that gave his side a 2-0 advantage.
Bianconeri themselves only managed to pull one back from Paulo Dybala’s effort 10 minutes from time.
