Real Madrid continue to show their pedigree as Champions League defending champion as they overcome a tough match to beat Ajax Amsterdam 2-1 on Wednesday.

Los Blancos were in for a tough match as Ajax immediately put the Spaniard under lots of pressure since kick off.

The Dutch side were able to create plenty problems for Madrid’s defense putting the defending champion in such difficulties.

Ajax even managed to get a goal, which was unfortunately ruled out by VAR decision, making the first half score line remained a 0-0.

In the second half, Madrid were able to improve their play as they took advantage over Erik Ten Hag’s team that slowed down for a bit.

Failing to take advantage over their dominant period, Ajax were punished as Madrid got the first break through with a fine finish from Karim Benzema on the hour mark.

The host were able to get back on level terms though as their relentless effort was rewarded through Hakim Ziyech’s goal on 75 minutes.

However, it was Madrid that got the final blow as three minutes from time they netted home the winner from Marco Asensio’s goal from inside the penalty area.

Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur looked to be strong favorites in advancing into the next round after getting a 3-0 home win over Borussia Dortmund.

After a goalless first 45 minutes, Hotspur got themselves in front through Son Heung-Min’s finish on 47 minutes.

The Premier League outfit were able to secure their victory late in the match as they netted two goals on 83 minutes by Jan Vertonghen and Fernando Llorente three minutes later.
