Just like it was strongly predicted before, Julen Lopetegui’s time at Real Madrid finally came to an end following Los Blancos 5-1 defeat against their arch rival, Barcelona on Sunday.
Already struggling to pick up results in their last few games, Madrid’s management saw the weekend defeat as the final straw for them as they eventually opted to dismiss Lopetegui and appointed former player, Santiago Solari as interim boss.
That news was confirmed by the Spanish club themselves via their official website, noting that there’s huge different in terms of players quality with results they’ve obtained so far.
It was certainly not a surprising decision made by the Spanish giant’s management as the pressure in questioning the former Spanish national team boss’ future at Santiago Bernebau was already rising following the club’s recent poor results.
Despite ending their previous winless streak on midweek with the hard fought victory over Viktoria Plzen, the sunday tie against Barca was always going to be the main decider for Lopetegui.
Unfortunately for the former FC Porto boss, the result was far from helpful as that massive 5-1 loss was never going to look nice in anyone’s eyes, let alone Los Blancos’ stern management.
The rather surprising news was more on Solari’s appointment as previous rumors strongly linking Antonio Conte for that massive role, but apparently Madrid have different ideas for now.
