Liverpool’s Champions League journey suddenly face a really serious threat as Jurgen Klopp’s men found themselves beaten by Red Star Belgrade 2-0 on Tuesday.
Winning their previous meeting with the Serbian outfit 4-0, The Reds players seemingly not expecting a strongly different scenario as they travel to that East Europa region.
Starting off pretty good, Klopp’s men will be ruing couple of opportunities they had early on, as it proved them costly when Milan Pavlov got the home side ahead on 22 minutes.
Seven minutes later, things got even more complicated for the visitor as Pavlov netted his second to make it 2-0, which lasted until half time break.
Liverpool tried to improve their performance after the break, but they were looking more dull instead and even struggling a lot going forward, making it rather comfortable for Red Star to eventually secure their two goals lead until the final whistle was blown.
A complicated result indeed for Liverpool as their last two games will be against two strong rivals, Paris Saint-Germain along with Napoli.
Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur revived their Champions League hope following their 2-1 home victory over PSV Eindhoven, which saw the Premier League having to chase the game.
Needing a victory to keep their European hope alive, both teams were pushing hard for goals since early minutes and it was the visitor that got themselves going when Luuk de Jong after just two minutes of play.
That early goal lasted until half time break, creating some serious concern for Tottenham as they were not keen on seeing their Champions League hope ended this early.
Fortunately, the home side able to get things back on track in the second half as Harry Kane netted two goals to turn things around for Mauricio Pochettino’s men as they now can still have that shot in advancing into the knock out stage.
