Chelsea’s ambition to maintain their good start in this early part of English Premier League season stumbled after they suffered a disappointing home defeat against Liverpool.
Keen on getting back on winning ways after a draw with Swansea last weekend, The Blues found themselves struggling in the early minutes as Jurgen Klopp’s men were putting on a strong display.
The Reds’ positive start in that game earned them an opening goal scored by Dejan Lovren, who scored after 17 minutes of play.
Antonio Conte’s side tried to immediately get back into that tie, but finding it difficult as they fell even further on 36 minutes through a wonderful shot from Jordan Henderson.
Chelsea improved their performance after the break and got their reward just after the hour mark from their top scorer, Diego Costa.
Despite getting that important momentum going, The Blues failed to take full advantage as they couldn’t add another goal as that tie ended in a 2-1 victory for Klopp’s boys.
That result puts Liverpool level on points with Chelsea as both sides now picked up 10 points from five league games, two points behind current league leader, Manchester City.
