Real Madrid made their way into the semifinal of UEFA Champions League, but not without hard work, and and edgy drama as Los Blancos surprisingly beaten 3-1 on the night by Juventus.
Taking a 3-0 lead on aggregate, Madrid were shocked as they found themselves trailing 1-0 after just two minutes of play when Mario Mandzukic scored for the Bianconeri.
That early lead seemingly gave the Turin giant some hope as they tried to push their luck at Santiago Bernebau and it looked like fortune was on theirs when Mandzukic netted again just before half time break.
Zinedine Zidane’s team were definitely surprised as they didn’t really got dominated by their opponent, yet were conceding two goals and can’t find any reply during that first 45 minutes.
Madrid came out more aggressive after the break, but were unable to finish off some of their chances and suddenly found themselves conceding a third goal, this time through Blaise Matuidi, who took advantage over Keylor Navas’ blunder.
The Spanish giant couldn’t believe their bad luck as they gave away another soft goal and still can’t find a way pass Buffon, despite having enough opportunities to at least score one.
However, late in the match they earned themselves a spot kick which also resulted in Gianluigi Buffon’s sending off and that penalty was converted expertly by Cristiano Ronaldo.
That late goal was enough to secure Madrid’s passage into the semifinal, albeit a rather disappointing second leg result as their final aggregate was 4-1 in favor of Los Blancos.
Meanwhile, in another tie, Bayern Munich also got through into the semifinal stage despite drawing 0-0 at home against Sevilla.
The German giant already had a 2-1 lead from their fist meeting and were unable to extend their aggregate as they got held into a goalless draw by their La Liga counterparts.
