An interesting statement was revealed by Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, as he publicly backed Italy as his strong candidate in winning the upcoming World Cup 2014, or at least reaching the final.
Being a Portuguese, it’s definitely surprising that Mourinho has such strong confidence over Italy’s strength, but that’s what basically Mourinho stated to the media as it was quoted on ESPN.
“Italy can go all the way. They have a very, very difficult group, but Italy are Italy. They will either win it or reach the final,” Mourinho said.
Furthermore, explaining his support towards Cesare Prandelli’s men, the ex-Real Madrid boss claimed that Italy have a very good mixture of talented and experienced players who can put on a solid performance in big games.
Obviously, before getting that far, Italy must first get themselves out from their group, a condition which according to Mourinho as the most essential one since things can get much smoother for Italy once they escaped from that group of death.
“If they get through the group, from the last-16 on, their preparation can make the difference. They’ve got tradition, faith and a good squad. Yes, I think Italy can do really well,” the tactician added.
