Another disappointing news arrived from Argentina’s national camp as after losing Sergio Romero, Albiceleste found themselves having to sent home Manuel Lanzini from their 23-men squad for upcoming World Cup 2018.
Just like Romero, Lanzini has to say goodbye towards his teammates as the West Ham United man has his dream of playing in Russia shattered just days before the tournament start due to injury.
As it was officially confirmed by Albiceleste’s twitter account, stating that the winger suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament on his right knee during training session, though there’s no further explanation on how the injury happened.
It’s certainly a disappointing news for Jorge Sampaoli since Lanzini is one of the players he supposedly prepared to play some part for the upcoming World Cup in Russia.
However, there’s nothing that the tactician can do at the moment aside from tinkering on who he will be calling up in place of the West Ham star player.
Until now, there’s still no decision on who Sampaoli will be taking to Russia in place of Lanzini, though some names such as Erik Lamela or Leandro Paredes have been mentioned by people.
It will be interesting on would the controversial Inter Milan forward, Mauro Icardi will be called up instead as replacement, since it’s a possibility though not the most likely since the striker plays a different role than Lanzini.
