Iceland dream of grabbing their first win ever in a major tournament was denied in the most dramatic fashion as an own goal from Birkir Mar Saevarsson rescued Hungary from defeat.
Our Boys looked to be heading for a historic result when Gylfi Sigurdsson puts them in front on 40 minutes, after successfully converting a spot kick.
Hungary tried hard to get back on level terms afterwards and their effort did earn its reward two minutes before the final 90 thanks to Saevarsson’s own goal.
A very disappointing outcome indeed for Iceland, but that result doesn’t completely ruled out their shot in advancing into the knock out stage, though now they will need all three points in their last group game against Austria.
