France showing their worth as one of the favorites of World Cup 2018 as Didier Deschamps’ men made their way into the semifinal after eliminating Uruguay 2-0 this Friday.
Playing against another South American side after their success in beating Argentina, Les Blues were not short in confidence as they face up against La Celeste.
It was far from an easy match for Deschamps’ men, especially in the early minutes where Uruguay were pressing really well high up on the pitch.
However, the absence of Edinson Cavani was pretty evident for Oscar Tabarez’s side as they looked lacking any short of sharpness in front of goal, with Luis Suarez visible not getting much chemistry with his new partner, Cristhian Stuani.
France took advantage of their opponent’s lack of attacking prowess as they dominate possession well and eventually got themselves ahead through Raphael Varane’s header five minutes before half time break.
An excellent save from goal keeper, Hugo Lloris, just before half time break might prove to be crucial as that put the score line still 1-0 for Les Blues as they go into half time break.
In the second half, nothing changed much with both teams’ approach, aside from Uruguay trying to push forward more than the first half.
It was still a rather tight game until Antoine Griezmann scored his national team’s second when his long range shot was fumbled by La Celeste’s goalie, Fernando Muslera.
A fatal mistake indeed from the Galatasaray keeper as his team never managed to get their spirit back after conceding that second goal.
Overall, a precious win indeed for France who continue to show an improved performance in each of their games.
