Iceland’s fairy tale in Euro 2016 finally see its ending as they were humbled by host nation France 5-2 with Arsenal striker, Olivier Giroud netting two goals.
Having a good confidence level following their shock win over England, Iceland did look to cause some problems towards their opponent early on but Les Blues were ready for everything.
France eventually got the positive early start they were looking for when Giroud opened his account on 12 minutes, springing the offside trap before scoring.
Things got even better for Les Blues seven minutes later as Paul Pogba extended their lead with his header, finishing Antoine Griezmann’s corner.
That game looking done and dusted already before half time break as Didier Deschamps’ men added two more goals through Dimitri Payet and Griezmann, making it 4-0 going into the second period.
Iceland were not keen on bowing down without any fight as they push forward and earned themselves a consolation through Kolbeinn Sigthorsson.
However, Les Blues made sure that the game was completely over as Giroud netted his second in the game, this time from a header.
Before the game ended, Iceland made things more respectable for them as they grabbed their second in the game, this time through Birkir Bjarnason.
That convincing win should give France a positive morale boost ahead of their tough semifinal battle against world champion, Germany.
