France Demolish Netherlands, Portugal Win Big in World Cup Qualifier
France national side extending their points gap with Sweden at the top of Group A on their World Cup 2018 qualifier group as Didier Deschamps’ men picked up an important victory over Netherlands on Thursday.
Needing a win to widen their gap with Sweden, Les Bleus immediately put on an attacking display against the Dutch and the home side’s effort was rewarded after just 14 minutes when Antoine Griezmann puts then in front.
Leading just by a single goal, France were far from satisfied as they kept on piling up the pressure which eventually cost the Dutch to play with 10 men as Kevin Strootman got himself sent off.
Playing with a man up gave plenty advantages for Deschamps’ boys as their dominance grew bigger, especially after snatching their second goal with a lovely strike from Thomas Lemar.
Lemar doubled his tally soon afterwards, finishing a fine assist from Griezmann to make it 3-0, before France’s golden boy, Kylian Mbappe netted his first official goal at international level to make it 4-0 in stoppage time.
In other game, Portugal keeping their pressure on group B’s current leader as Selecao bagged a comfortable 5-1 with over lowly Faroe Island.
Real Madrid star, Cristiano Ronaldo, continue to showcase his goal scoring prowess as he bagged a hat-trick in that game, while other goals for his team were netted by William Carvalho along with Nelson Oliveira.
Faroe Island did earn themselves a consolation goal though when Rogvi Baldvisson scored on 38 minutes, to temporarily create a sort of competitive atmosphere in the first 45 minutes of that match which ended 2-1, before Portugal bagged three more goals after the break.
