Fortune Favors Liverpool as They Edged Hoffenheim

Liverpool are taking a positive step on their attempt in reaching UEFA Champions League group stage after picking up a 2-1 first leg win over Bundesliga side, Hoffenheim.

Being tapped as favorite on the tie, The Reds didn’t find it easy as they were dominated by their opponent early on and was forced to play more on the counter.

The home side should have got themselves in front when they were awarded a spot kick, but Andrej Kramaric’s weak shot was saved by Simon Mignolet on Liverpool’s goal.

After several chances created by both teams, it was the away side that eventually took the lead through their young defender, Trent Alexander-Arnold who netted home from a free kick.

Nothing changed much after the break as Hoffenheim still having more ball possession, but Jurgen Klopp’s men continue to treat from their swift counter attacking play.

It was from another counter that the visitor were able to double their advantage as James Milner’s attempted cross was deflected by Havard Nordtveit, giving a tough time for the host.

Just when it looked like to be a comfortable victory for the Premier League outfit, things suddenly changed late in the game as Hoffenheim pulled one back through Mark Uth.

The Bundesliga side almost snatched an equalizer during extra time, but once again luck didn’t seem to be on their side as they have to accept a 2-1 defeat in that first match up between both sides.
