Spain have been such a dominant force in world football recently as they already won many international titles including grabbing the World Cup trophy four years ago.
However, back in the days, things were not that excellent for La Furia Roja as if football fans still remember how they were always been touted as a talented side which are lacking in terms of final product.
One of the example of their somewhat disappointing episode arrived in World Cup 1998 where they were surprisingly beaten by Nigeria 3-2 during the group game.
Having talents such as Raul Gonzales, Fernando Hierro and many others, La Furia Roja suffered a massive disappointment on that game as they wasted two leading position and ended as the losing side after some goal keeping blunder from legendary goal keeper, Andoni Zubizaretta.
In that match, Spain got themselves in front through Fernando Hierro’s free kick, but Nigeria got back on level terms just before half time break through. Raul Gonzales regained La Furia Roja’s lead, but Zubizaretta’s clumsy goal keeping allowed the African side a way back into that tie.
Eventually, the Super Eagles managed to earn one of the shock of that tournament as Sunday Oliseh scored a cracking goal which gave them all three points.
Before witnessing a potentially different Spanish and Nigeria side in this upcoming World Cup 2014, football fans might be interested in reliving that past memories once again.
