Contrasting results arrived for two Premier League title favorites as defending champions, Chelsea suffered a shock defeat over bottom table side, Crystal Palace, while Manchester City hammering Stoke City.
Traveling to Selhust Park with a make shift squad, The Blues didn’t really expect themselves in so much trouble, but that exactly what happened as Antonio Conte’s men got behind after just 11 minutes through Cesar Azpilicueta’s own goal.
Chelsea were able to get back on level terms though not long after going down as their summer signing, Tiemoue Bakayoko made it 1-1 on 18 minutes.
However, the home team regained their lead just before half time break, giving Conte’s men much to do in the second half of that tie.
Despite dominating things after the break and creating several chances, The Blues struggle to get another goal as Palace defended well and hold their slender lead until the final whistle was blown.
Meanwhile, Man City continue to showcase their attacking prowess as Pep Guardiola’s men hit 7 on their home tie against Stoke.
City put on an aggressive display since kick off and found themselves 3-1 up during the first 45 minutes with goals from Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling along with David Silva, while their opponent pulled one through Mame Diouf.
After a glimmer of hope earned by Stoke early in the second half following Kyle Walker’s own goal, the match was all City as they added four more goal during that period.
Jesus added his second to make it 4-2, before Fernandinho, Leroy Sane and Bernando Silva completed that massive 7-2 score line which also gave the home team two points lead at the top of Premier League standings.
