Cavani’s Double Sent Uruguay to World Cup 2018 Quarter Final

Uruguay booked their place in the FIFA World Cup 2018 quarter final following their success in beating Portugal 2-1.

Paris Saint-Germain striker, Edinson Cavani was the main man for La Celeste as he bagged both of his national team’s goals in that tie.

Cavani started his goal scoring spree on seven minutes, heading home Luis Suarez’s lovely cross as they both shown such exciting chemistry together.

That goal triggered positive reaction from Portugal as they pushed harder in search for an equalizer, getting more dominant in possession and tried hard in breaking down their opponent’s defense.

However, Selecao das Quinas’ attacking play looked so ineffective during that first 45 minutes as they struggling to create any clear cut chances, with La Celeste’s defense seemingly able to break down anything Cristiano Ronaldo and co did.

After the break, nothing changed much from both teams’ approach as Uruguay continue to play more on the counter while Fernando Santos’ team kept on thriving forward.

Portugal did finally got their break through though as a relentless attacking play led to a corner which was headed home by Pepe on 55 minutes.

Unfortunately, that 1-1 score line didn’t last long as on 62 minutes, Cavani completed his brace with a lovely precised angle shot.

Selecao das Quinas were forced to push forward vigorously again, but this time they couldn’t fine any way back until the final whistle was blown.

This result pretty much set Uruguay for a meeting against Les Blues in the quarter final round of 2018 World Cup.
