Having been an icon of AS Roma for more than a decade, there’s none one who wouldn’t recognize the contribution that Francesco Totti has as up till now, he keeps on providing that creative inspiration on the pitch.
Acknowledging the captain’s pedigree, Roma’s president, James Pallotta, recently confirmed his intention in retiring the number 10 jersey that Totti has been wearing for quite some time now.
Speaking in an interview with Sky Sport, Pallotta didn’t have any hesitation in sharing about his plan saying, “When Francesco retires, we will withdraw the no. 10 shirt. No question about that. And his goodbye won’t be a one-hour affair — rather, one month.”
Aside from acknowledging Totti’s contribution, Pallotta also keen on having more home ground talents who break into the first team such a the skipper, Daniele De Rossi along with Alessandro Florenzi.
The President admitted that he is much more keen to see a quality player who can play for the club for 10-15 years instead of having to continuously shelling out cash in purchasing talents.
Roma are heading into a new direction indeed as they finally looking as a title challenging side after the take over, something that didn’t seem likely in previous two seasons, where things didn’t seem to go right for them.
