Arsenal continuing their positive recovery signs as Arsene Wenger’s men advanced into the next round of Europa League after eliminating AC Milan 5-1 on aggregate.
Winning 2-0 away from home, Gunners grabbed another 3-1 victory despite some controversies were involved on that tie, notably their equalizing effort scored by Danny Welbeck.
Keen on securing their passage into the next round, Arsenal tried to take control of proceedings early on, but it was not an easy task as Milan were also determined to give it a go.
The away side were able to get themselves in front on 35 minutes through Hakan Calhanoglu’s lovely long range shot, but that goal didn’t last long as Wenger’s men equalized from Welbeck’s spot kick.
It was a very controversial penalty as replay showed there were no foul or contact made by Milan player on the English international as he was trying to chase for the ball inside the penalty area.
That incident heated things up as moments later, Milan shouted for potential penalty for a hand ball inside the box, but was waved away by the officials.
The game was stretched in the second half, but Milan’s poor finishing eventually cost them as Arsenal took advantage of that situation by scoring two more goals from Granit Xhaka and Welbeck’s second.
Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid also got themselves through into the next stage of Europa League as they defeated Lokomotiv Moscow 5-1 in Russia.
That big victory means that Diego Simeone’s men are taking a massive 8-1 win on aggregate as they beat their opponent 3-0 in their first meeting.
