Jose Mourinho has quashed rumours that Karim Benzema is set to leave Real Madrid this summer claiming that the player will have a major role to play in the coming season. The Portuguese boss stated, ‘Karim now thinks about football in the same way that I do. He has everything required to have a great campaign. He looks much better than he did this time last year. I think I have managed to convince him that my way is the best way’. The two enjoyed a fairly explosive relationship at times last season but seem to have put their differences aside.

The French striker has enjoyed a successful pre-season so far, scoring three goals in four games and impressing Mourinho with his overall work-rate which many criticised last season. Reports had emerged that Madrid had offered the player to Arsenal for a figure of £25 million but with the Spanish club lacking out-and-out strikers, it seems unrealistic that the player will leave this summer even if another addition is made.

Benzema is entering his third season at the Bernabeu since moving from Lyon and has managed 23 league goals in 60 appearances, including 15 in the last campaign. He found himself playing second fiddle to Emmanuel Adebayor and Gonzalo Higuain at times last season but seems keen to impose himself in the Spanish capital this time around.
