Liverpool 2-1 Everton highlights – FA Cup semi-final

Andy Carroll, who missed an easy chance but bounced back to score Liverpool’s late winner: “It’s the best feeling ever. We worked hard and getting a goal at the end was great. I had a few chances and I probably should have scored earlier but I kept going. I’ve had some criticism but I have kept going. I believe in myself every day.”

Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard after his side reached their first FA Cup final since they beat West Ham in 2006: “It was very tough. Everton played very well, they are a good side with a good manager. But we were superb in the second half and we showed great character. Certain players have had a lot of criticism this week but they stood up today. We bought Andy Carroll to score big goals and he has delivered today.”

Jamie Carragher on Andy Carroll’s winner for Liverpool in their FA Cup semi-final against Everton: “He will be remembered forever. That goal is worth £35m alone for me and I wouldn’t swap Luis Suarez for any other player.”

GOAL Liverpool 0-1 Everton – Nikica Jelavic (23 mins)

An absolute shocker for Liverpool defenders Daniel Agger and Jamie Carragher gifts Everton the opening goal. Both of them stand and watch a bouncing ball inside the Reds box and, when they do act, they make a real mess of things. Carragher slips as he fires his clearance straight at Tim Cahill and the ball drops for Nikica Jelavic to beat Brad Jones with a low shot into the bottom corner of the net.

GOAL Liverpool 1-1 Everton – Luis Suarez (62 mins)
Everton’s turn for some disastrous defending, and it proves just as costly. Sylvain Distin’s backpass is woefully short and Luis Suarez nips in, darting into the area and slotting a precise finish past Tim Howard before Johnny Heitinga can get back to cover.
As soon as Distin realised his error, and saw who was running though, he held his head in his hands – he knew exactly what he had done.
