Sunday afternoon will be Liverpool’s second of a three-match blitz which will come to a close on Tuesday evening when the Reds travel back down to Stamford Bridge for the Carling Cup quarter-final against Chelsea, but all focus will be on taking down Manchester City. City are on the verge of missing the Champions League knockout stages following their 2-1 loss against Napoli, and Liverpool will look to exploit the league leaders while their guard is down.
Liverpool will likely return to their same XI that dispatched Chelsea rather easily, meaning Andy Carroll, Stewart Downing and Jamie Carragher may have to settle for a place on the bench yet again. Kenny Dalglish spoke ahead of his training sessions for the weekend on his team selection, saying that price-tags mean nothing when it comes to team selection, and that every one within the squad must WANT to play in order to be up for contention.
‘It is not pleasant and it is understandable there’s disappointment if you are not playing every game,’ Dalglish told Daily Mail reporters. ‘It is a long season and everyone is going to be given their chance. But if they are not committed to playing, we will go and get people who are determined to play.’
Luis Suarez and Sergio Aguero are likely to start for their respective sides as both have taken the Premier League by storm, and it could prove to be a pivotal match for both clubs in a title race that is heating up ahead of the holidays.
