The Reds booked their first trip to Wembley Stadium since 1996 last Wednesday but there was no time for celebration as the Reds hosted Manchester United just three days later in the FA Cup Fourth Round. Liverpool and Manchester United have had their classics over the years, and the match on Saturday would prove no different. Liverpool and the Kop blew off the roof when Daniel Agger put Liverpool ahead in the first half, but United would strike back through Park Ji-Sung before half-time. Kenny Dalglish made three big changes in the second half, taking off stalwarts Jamie Carragher and Steven Gerrard. The moves paid off however, as Liverpool took control of the game and saw Andy Carroll play the football of his Anfield career with 20 minutes remaining. The flick which put Dirk Kuyt through on goal was just the type of controlled passing the Reds had hoped their 35 million man could produce, and Kuyt proceeded to bury the ball past David De Gea and put Liverpool into the fifth round where they will host Brighton & Hove Albion.

Following their win over Manchester United there is a buzz around Anfield once more. Just a week after Kenny Dalglish so publicly laid into his squad which failed miserably in a 3-1 defeat away to Bolton, the Reds seemed to have sparked back into life. That life will be tested at the Molineux when the Reds take on Wolves. Dalglish will be hoping his side can avoid the Cup hangover once more and continue their quest for a fourth place finish. The month of January has been one of ups and downs for the Reds with several missed opportunities to overtake the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal in the race for fourth. The month of February could prove a colossal one for the Reds, with several key games against Tottenham, Manchester United and Everton taking place in the League. The Reds will also make their long-awaited trip to Wembley in February, but Kenny Dalglish revealed in an interview of his desire for the Reds to fight for all three targets this season.

Dalglish told Liverpoolfc.tv :”We’ve got 16 league games left, we’ve got a cup final at Wembley and the fifth round of the FA Cup at home to Brighton – there’s a lot for us to play for this season.

“Qualification for the Champions League is one of them. We’ll try our best to do as much as we possibly can and make it as good for everybody as we can.”
